Merran Smith is the executive director of Clean Energy Canada and a fellow at Simon Fraser University’s Centre for Dialogue. For most of her career, she has worked to unite industry, government, and civil society organizations to solve pressing social and ecological challenges. As the lead “environmental architect” of the landmark Great Bear Rainforest conservation agreement, she helped ensure the protection of thousands of square kilometers of coastal ecosystem. In May 2015, the Government of British Columbia appointed Merran to its Climate Leadership Team, which is advising the province on how best to strengthen policies and meet its climate commitments. Merran is a 2014 recipient of the Clean 16 Award for leadership in clean capitalism, and serves on the board of the Canadian Climate Forum. She also received the Wilburforce Foundation Award for Outstanding Conservation Leadership.
